'Sunset Moth' (일몰나방)는 마다가스카르에 서식하는 나방으로 ‘비단제비나방'이라는 이름도 가지고 있다. 세상에서 가장 화려한 나방으로 낮에 활동한다 그리고 날개가 매우 화려한데 비해 색소가 없다. 날개의 각도에 따라 빛이 반사되어 우리 눈에 보여지는 것이다. 그래서 'Sunset Moth'는 색이 없다.

처음 작업의 시작은 나의 날개를 가지고 싶어서 였다. 날개 이미지를 찾던 중 현미경으로 본 나비날개의 이미지를 찾았고 물고기의 비늘, 나무껍질, 손톱 등 여러 가지 이미지가 중첩된 모습에 흥미를 느꼈다.

하지만 날개를 만들려 만들수록 무게가 더해졌고, 그 무게를 견디지 못해 내려놓게 되었다.

천의 형태로 보이는 'Sunset Moth'는 세라믹으로 만들어져 단단하고 깨지기 쉬운 성질을 가지고 있다. 백색의 각기 다른 모양의 조각으로 이루어져 있으며 그 조각이 모여 흰 천을 이룬다. 길게 내려와 바닥에 흐르듯 설치된 이 작품은 하나의 그림으로 조각으로 그리고 설치작품으로 읽혀 지기를 바란다.

 

그리고 'Sunset Moth'는 기능을 상실한 하나의 오브제이다. 혹시 힘이 세진다면 날개로 만들 수 있을지도 모르지만, 옷이 아닌 날개가 아닌 그냥 천의 형태로 표현한 것은 무언가로 만들어지기 전 무엇이든 만들 수 있는 상태로 두고자 했다.

The 'Sunset Moth' is a moth native to Madagascar, where it's also known as the 'Silk Swallowtail'. It's the most colourful moth in the world and is active during the day. It has very colourful wings, but they're not pigmented. The angle of their wings reflects light and makes them visible to our eyes. That's why the sunset moth has no colour.

I started working on it because I wanted to have my own wings. I was looking for images of wings, and I found an image of a butterfly wing under a microscope, and I was intrigued by the layering of different images, such as fish scales, bark and nails.
. But the more I tried to make wings, the more weight they added, and I had to put them down because I couldn't bear the weight.

Sunset Moth', which appears to be in the form of a cloth, is made of ceramic, which is hard and fragile. It is made up of white, differently shaped pieces that come together to form a white fabric. Long and flowing on the floor, the work is intended to be read as a painting, sculpture and installation.

​

And 'Sunset Moth' is an object that has lost its function: if you were strong enough you could make it into wings, but I wanted to leave it in a state where it could be made into anything before it was made into anything, not a garment, not wings, just a piece of fabric.
