ABOUT 소개
2014년 결성한 STUDIO 1750은 장소와 재료 그리고 함께하는 이를 제한하지 않는 유목적인 그룹으로 장소와 호흡하고 주변의 재료를 활용하는 거주하는 곳이 아틀리에가 되고 전시장이 된다. 현재 2인으로 구성되어 있지만 때에 따라 여럿으로 프로젝트를 진행하고 객원예술가, 기획자 등을 초대해 그의 행보에 발맞추기도 한다.
STUDIO 1750 was formed in 2014, as a nomadic group unrestricted by location, genre, materials, or members. We communicated with spaces and make use of common materials around us. wherever we reside becomes the atelier and exhibition space. currently we have only two members, but we invite more collaborators to join us for a projet, or are open to other artists and producers about joining their projects.
작가노트
우리는 혼종문화와 오브제의 변성이라는 주제로 작업한다.
최근 작업하고 있는 상상 속 동식물들은 유전자 변형 생명체에 대한 작업이다. 지금의 먹거리로 인해 변이되어가는 또는 진화되어가는 과정들을 이야기하고 있다.
혼종문화는 근본을 알 수 없을 만큼 뒤섞여버린 현 문화를 우리의 자화상이라 이야기하고, 그것을 코드화, 이미지화 하고 있다. 오브제의 변성은 일상의 부분을 오브제로 불러들이는 작업으로 일상적인 사물에 의미나 기능을 달리하거나 변이 시키면서 오브제가 가지는 물성을 전환하여 오브제 다시 보기, 우리가 인지하고 있는 오브제 다르게 보기를 시도한다. 일상 다르게 보기는 현실의 왜곡에서 시작해 주변 풍경 속 궁금증으로 그리고 일련의 사건들을 접하면서 미래의 알 수 없는 지점으로 확장 중 이다.
현 문화에 대한 그리고 일상에 대한 관심은 개인적인 기억과 주변의 이야기들 그리고 사건들이 일화로 더해져 유기적인 이야기를 만들어 간다.
Artist Statement
Our theme is about hybrid culture and the transformation of objets.
Imaginary animals and plants are the work of genetically modified organisms. The process of changing or evolving due to the food being changed.
“Hybrid culture’ concerns our contemporary culture, where everything whiteout roots coexists and represents ourselves, with codified and visualized messages.
”Transformation of objets“ is about recreating part of our daily lives as objets. The common objets from our daily life take on transformed meaning or functions. The transformed physical properties of the objets will let us thing differently about what we perceive. Our works are about rethinking our daily lives, starting from distorted realities, expanding curiosity toward the scenes around us, and advancing to the unknown point of the future after facing unexpected events.
With an interest in contemporary culture and daily life, we organically develop stories and narratives based on personal memories, stories, and incidents around us.
